From comfort levels to preventing critical issues, plumbing plays an incredibly important role in...
Preparation is key to a safe and successful road-trip. Before filling your caravan, ensure that you have packed the essential parts and accessories.
Gippsland RV & Marine understands the importance of preparation when it comes to road-trips, which is why we sell a variety of Caravan parts & accessories, ideal for ensuring you have all the necessary components for an exceptional adventure.
Remote Communication options
In remote areas, your ability to contact roadside assistance or emergency services may be compromised, so it's essential to have a satellite phone or a satellite sleeve for your mobile. This ensures you can reach out to anyone you need, whether it's for assistance with a vehicle breakdown, to report an emergency situation, or simply to stay in touch with family and friends while you're exploring remote and isolated areas.
maps
GPS devices can lose signal or run out of charge, which is fine if you're in a familiar place, but not so comfortable when you're on the road. If you find yourself in unfamiliar or remote areas where the landmarks are scarce and road signs are few and far between, relying solely on technology can leave sometimes leave you stranded and lost. Alongside your GPS, it's a good idea to have a physical map book to help find your way to your destination, or guide you back to safety.
camping gear
While the comfort of your van is undeniable, you might find yourself yearning for a change of scenery or a more immersive experience in nature during your trip. To make the most of your adventure and ensure you have the flexibility to explore beyond the confines of your vehicle, it's wise to plan ahead and pack the following essential items:
- Tent
- Camp chairs and table
- Sleeping bags and sleeping mats
- Portable stove, cookware and fridge
- And lastly, a torch
cooking
While it isn't recommended that you take weeks of supplies, it's important to take things that can last you at lease five full days, in case you either get stranded, lost, or simply can't find a place to stock up on food. You should also take at least 80 litres of water with you.
Take cooking equipment with you as well. Whilst it's important to have all the ingredients for a meal, it's also important to actually be able to cook it. Not only does this include pots and pans. but also gas bottles, cutlery, and containers for leftovers. Remember to also bring soap, wipes, hand sanitiser, hand towels, tissues, and any other washing liquids you'll need to keep yourself and your surroundings clean.
car and van maintenance
If something goes wrong, it's useful to be able to fix it yourself, as opposed to solely relying on roadside assistance. Take the following things with you:
- Spare wheels, for both vehicles
- Tie downs
- A car and van repair manual - you may not have access to the internet!
- Engine oil and radiator coolant
- Jumper leads
- Tools
- Spare belts, for both the A/C and alternator
off-road items
These off-road items may also come in handy:
- Shovel
- Solar Blanket
- Air compressor, tyre deflator and tyre repair kit
- Fire extinguisher/fire blanket
